Music & Science

Science and music both shed new light on the world around us. The main difference is that science uses the language of the brain and music uses the language of the heart. Recently I’ve been interested in finding connections between music and science, which led me to work on the following projects:

  • Quantum Physics and Music – exploring the relationship of quantum physics to the music of Schoenberg, Berg, and Webern.
  • Modified Gravity – a presentation/concert I gave at the 2018 open day of the European Space Agency. It explored the feeling of gravity in music, how it relates to composers such as Mozart and Beethoven, and how it is experienced differently in 20th century composers such as Bartok.
  • Music and AI – I participated in an evening in 2018 organized by Asko|Schoenberg which explored the possibilities of music and artificial intelligence, robots, and more. We performed a piece composed entirely by AI, discussed the latest research done by Google and others, and explored how technology will influence the future of music.
